For over 30 years, Hillery Group has been a cornerstone of the quarrying and construction industry, delivering top-tier quarry materials and civil construction services with the reliability and expertise that only decades of experience can provide. From humble beginnings as a small family business, Hillery Group continues to thrive under the leadership of brothers Luke and Liam Hillery, who have expanded the company’s reach and impact since taking over the business in 2019. With Luke as Chief Executive Officer and Liam as Business Director of Quarries, the brothers have steered the company toward remarkable growth, expanding their team to over100 skilled employees, all while never losing sight of the family and community values underpinning the business.
Hillery Group’s latest milestone is its strategic expansion into the Airlie Beach and Proserpine region, which is marked by the acquisition of two additional quarries, including the Whitsunday Quarry. This move increases their workforce to 130 employees and reinforces their commitment to delivering high-quality products and services while supporting the local communities they serve.
“This expansion is not just about growing our business; it’s about strengthening our ability to serve our clients and support our community,” says Luke Hillery. “With more resources and skilled workers, we’re better equipped to deliver the high standards our clients expect – from small driveway clean up jobs to landscape and quarry materials through to bulk haulage, earthworks and complex civil construction projects.”
This expansion is also a testament to Hillery Group’s dedication to its core values. Quality of work, reliability, and community engagement are not just business practices—they are the foundation for the company’s reputation. “Our reputation is the cornerstone of our identity,” says Luke Hillery, CEO of Hillery Group. “Every moment matters, and this expansion strengthens our ability to continue delivering on our promises.”
Diversification has been key to Hillery Group’s success, allowing them to tackle various projects, from rural road maintenance to major infrastructure projects. Their unique ability to supply their own materials ensures that every project is delivered with the highest standards of quality and consistency, further enhancing their reputation in the industry.
As the company grows, so too does its commitment to creating job opportunities and fostering career pathways for local residents – something the Hillery brothers are particularly passionate about. “As we’ve grown, it’s been incredibly rewarding to create more opportunities for the local community,” reflects Luke. “We’re not just a business—we’re part of the community and the Whitsunday’s are our home. Providing pathways for young people and supporting local families is central to who we are and what we stand for.”
Hillery Group offers a range of opportunities, beginning with traineeships. As they have expanded, these opportunities have evolved beyond basic training roles such as mechanics, boilermakers, operators, and labourers. The company now also provide pathways into higher-level positions, including management, engineering, project management, and advanced finance roles.
Looking to the future, Hillery Group remains focused on growth and sustainability. “We’re always exploring new opportunities to strengthen our position in the industry,” Luke explains. “Right now, our priority is to ensure the successful integration of Whitsunday Quarry and to continue delivering for our clients and our community.”
With their roots firmly planted in family values and a deep sense of responsibility to their community, Hillery Group is poised to continue their legacy of excellence, innovation, and growth—building a business and a stronger future for the regions they serve.
