A Passion For All Things Finance & Real Estate with Kara Collins of Yellow Brick Road Home Loans, Mackay – Mortgage Broking

Ten years is a long time to be in business, but in March that’s exactly what Kara Collins of Yellow Brick Road Home Loans in Mackay has achieved. For someone who had a child at 18 and could have easily used that as an excuse, she used it to spur her on and achieve.

“With having a baby so young, I was responsible for the future of myself.

“Having my son Ashton was a challenge but it was also the reason I pushed myself constantly to always do better.

“I am so proud of the amazing young man he is today, and also of myself for being strong enough to always have his back and do the best I could for him,” Kara explains.

Kara, who never leaves her black cherry lip balm behind, has a real estate licence and manages the operations of short-term rentals. She is also a buyer's agent assisting other investors and really enjoys real estate.

“I love real estate and always have.

“I fit it around mortgage broking, finding they work really well together. I’ve been actively investing in property and growing a portfolio for the last nine years and love nothing more than helping others do the same,” she says.

Outside of business, Kara enjoys a Friday afternoon cocktail but more often than not, she’s spending time with her family and friends.

“We love to go to the beach or the parks around the region or having snacks by our pool. There is nothing better than spending time with loved ones. I also can’t help myself with projects around our home or renovating a property here and there when I get the time to.”

Like most women, Kara juggles business and family, finding it challenging at times, but finds great support in her parents, especially her mum who is also a big part of her businesses.

“It’s always a challenge with children and running businesses to juggle everything. However, having a business also brings a lot of flexibility that I wouldn’t have if I had a full-time job, so I am so grateful to be able to do everything I am.”

“My mother has always shown me from a young age that you can be a strong woman and achieve your career goals while having a family. You really can have it all,” she adds.

What are your words of wisdom?

“Most people love to tell me how lucky I am or how wonderful it must be, but the truth is it’s a lot of long hours, stress, and self-reflection. On the other hand, it allows you to change and adapt to your life, your goals, and your family. You have to back yourself, stick to your vision and don’t give up.”
