View Website Elements As poignant in life as it is in business, the saying “The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result,” resonates with many business owners as more retail stores close their doors.

Determined to not become another statistic, Owner of Elements Outdoor Living, Debbie Teske, knew she would have to change in order to survive. With more than 15 years of experience selling outdoor furniture in Mackay and Cairns, Debbie stepped away from the Ambiance Indoor Outdoor Living brand to establish her own family-owned and operated identity, Elements Outdoor Living.

Vestibulum interdum risus “We just couldn’t keep doing the same ol’ same ol’ and expect a different result. Bricks and Mortar retail stores have suffered over the last two years, evident with more major brands closing down. We made the heartbreaking decision to close our Cairns store, but keep the Mackay store open while now providing an online option to continue to service North Queensland while branching out Australia-wide.

“I wasn’t happy with the status quo; after all its not what happens, it’s what you do about it! We still don’t know if this is the right decision, but change brings challenges that help us grow,” Debbie said.

She added, “We have chosen to align ourselves independently with global suppliers who are passionate about design, durability, practicality and environmental awareness. Our customers deserve a better choice in the knowledge that their investment in quality furniture ensures longevity in our North Queensland climate and obtained from sustainable sources. We go the extra mile to create value in our customers’ experiences by sourcing quality pieces from all over the world.”

“The four ancient elements of life consist of the earth, fire, water and air. The unity of the elements are harmonized in the creation of the Elements Outdoor Living logo. These foundations form a powerful symbol of how to live our lives in alignment with nature, to live within the four seasons and maintain a balanced lifestyle.

“We believe in supporting and working consciously with people and with Mother Nature; this belief is at the core of everything we value in promoting a happy, healthy lifestyle by providing products to inspire people to relax, entertain and enjoy their outdoor space,” Debbie said.

What's the hardest thing you've ever done?

“Picking grapes in the south of France for six weeks in the mountains where it was freezing cold. Labour intensive, back breaking work; but the litre of red wine I got at the end of each day plus the great people I worked with made it well worth it.”
“Almost 30 years ago, John and I were the first people to independently travel solo on a motorbike and sidecar from the top of Africa, through the Sahara Desert, across the Congo and down the East coast of Africa to South Africa. A journey that took two-and-a-half years.”
